Alcalá de Henares Urban Route

To Alcalá you can arrive perfectly by train from the city of Madrid or overnight the night before in one of the multiple and varied accommodations that the city offers.

It is a suggested urban route to discover Alcalá de Henares and all its cultural wealth, for which the municipality is included in the World Heritage program of the Community of Madrid.

The route begins at the train station, and you will enter the city declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, the birthplace of Cervantes is an ideal place to stroll, visit its museums and monuments, eat in one of its good restaurants, and take away some typical sweet.

Get in the way to the Laredo Palace, it is very close to Renfe Cercanías, in the street of the Station. The building draws attention because it reminds of another called El Capricho, designed by Gaudí and located in the Cantabrian town of Comillas. It houses, in addition to the Cisneriano Museum, a documentation center, attached to the University of Alcalá.

The next stop takes us to the outskirts of the city to discover the remains of the castle of Alcalá la Vieja, the most important Islamic enclave that is conserved in the Madrid region, are in a hill near Alcalá de Henares that is reached through a hiker route through the valley of the river Henares.

Continue the route that will take you back to the city center where the archaeological park of Complutum is worth a visit. There are the remains of the House Hyppolytus dating from the late 3rd century AD. It was a school and leisure center for young patricians, with thermal area and a garden. A mosaic with a fishing scene stands out.

Other points of the city that you should not miss are: The Cathedral of Alcala, the Museum of Cervantes and Cervantes.
