Technical characteristics
Among others, the following measures have been adopted:
- The language used, the structure of the content and the context information are simple and coherent and easily understood by people.
- Use of (X)HTML code to create standard documents. The content is marked with labels, providing context information and allowing the user to differentiate headings, sections, paragraphs, lists, etc.
- The positioning of the content is done through the use of CSS cascading style sheets. These standard premises adequately mark and allow the separation of the structure and the presentation of the content. With this procedure, compatibility is guaranteed for different browsers and devices, allowing the use of navigation assistance technologies such as screen readers for people with visual disabilities.
- A legible font size has been used. The texts have been checked for sufficient contrast with respect to the background colours. The font size and the selected colour tones can be modified with the tools that each browser provides for this purpose. Font sizes have been defined with relative units.
- Images, except those that are decorative, have an alternative description. Images have mandatory alternative text so that an alternative is offered to those people who do not access the graphic content.
- Functional alternatives for those users who have disabled Javascript. Javascript, Ajax, etc. effects do not hide information or block access to those people who use browsers that do not support these technologies.
- The use of pop-up windows is avoided.
- The use of moving graphics and flashes is avoided and, in situations where their use is essential, the necessary functionalities are provided to be able to stop the movement.
- The use of colour to give meaning to content is avoided.
- Colour tones that have been previously validated in the contrast algorithms between text and background colour for WCAG2 are used. Links with Title. Links provide details of the hyperlink destination. Navigation should be simple.
- Links should be informative and should exactly meet the information that users expect.
- Forms have attributes that facilitate accessibility.
- A content management system (Drupal) is used to help maintain the accessibility of content over time.
Reading content
All pages provide a text-to-speech function accessible from this icon that allows the reading of web pages "aloud" not only from the computer, but also from iPhones and smartphones including Blackberry and Android, iPads, MP3 players, PDAs, game consoles, interactive Internet TV and Internet booths.
The user of this portal does not have to download or install any software. Simply click on the "listen" button and the reading will start automatically. If you select part of the text, a play button will automatically appear next to the mouse pointer, allowing quick access to the reading function of the selected text. In addition to reading the content of the page, it also allows you to highlight the text, phrase by phrase or word by word as it is read. By displaying the content reading icon you can configure some of the features of the service such as reading speed, text highlighting colors or vertical scrolling.
This system helps users with access problems to understand the contents of your website, people with low vision, people with reading problems or cognitive difficulties, people with dyslexia, foreigners, etc.
