The Landscapes of Wine

The landscapes of Madrid Wine take us back to a past of agricultural traditions because the current landscape is shaped and is the result of the work of the farmers who settled in Madrid.

In the south of the region we have one of the best examples of cultural landscape in a unique enclave, Aranjuez, with its rural architecture, the result of the interaction of nature and human beings. It is a land of orchards and crops that filled the pantry of the court of the Kings of Spain in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The area of Navalcarnero also has important landscape value, a land of fields and meadows, with its characteristic plains cut from north to south by the Guadarrama River.

Nothing to do with the area of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, more rugged and mountainous due to the influence of the proximity of the Sistema Central. Pastures, mountains and pine forests define its landscape of great natural value.

Wine routes

Today, you can visit around twenty wineries and vineyards spread throughout the region. Using these wineries as a base, the Madrid Enoturismo website offers you a series of interesting itineraries, which offer you the opportunity to participate in a collective project, learn about the winemaking process, as well as interact and exchange opinions with other enthusiasts and professionals.

First of all, we find a route called “The arrival of the Roman Empire” that extends from Alcalá de Henares to Titulcia and has three wineries spread along the way: Orusco, Tagonius and Villabayona.

We continue with “The valley of the churches and the legacy of Cistercians”, here we find a longer route that begins in Pelayos de la Presa and ends in Villa del Prado, with wineries that can be visited such as Bernabeleva, Las Moradas, Luis Saavedra and Valleyglesias.

The next route starts from Villarejo de Salvanes and ends in Castillo de Oreja. It is called “The Tagus and the wines of the Order of Santiago”, with the opportunity to visit the wineries of Andrés Morate, Jesús Figueroa, Jesús Díaz, Pedro García and Solera.

Way of Kings” takes a shorter route, from Navalcarnero to Aranjuez, passing by wineries such as El Real Cortijo, Ricardo Benito and Andrés Regajal to feel like true kings.

If that is not enough, we can visit the wineries of Pablo Morate and El Señorío de Val Azul on the “The Chronicles of Francisco de Goya” route, which starts in Vega del Jarama and ends in Valdelaguna.

Finally, on the “The Times of the Railway” route, from Madrid to Pozuelo del Rey, you can visit the wineries of Castejón, Gonsalbez Orti, Tagonius and Vinícola de Arganda.
