Description
To Zarzalejo you can arrive by train from the city of Madrid, through its station or overnight overnight in one of the accommodations offered by the area.
Zarzalejo, a small municipality in the Sierra Oeste region of the Community of Madrid, a place of recreation and rest of Felipe II, preserves its old quarter of traditional mountain typology framed in a landscape of berrocales, piedemonte and chestnut trees.
Begin the route in the direction of Robledo de Chavela, part of the Imperial Route (municipalities where King Felipe II spent in his travels between Madrid and the Monastery of El Escorial). The old mansions that dot the municipality attest to its historical heritage.
You can not miss the opportunity to visit the old town of Robledo before leaving for Colmenar del Arroyo.
On the way to your next destination you will find the NASA Telecommunications Center. The facilities that NASA has to communicate with the spacecraft are a must.
Continuing with the proposed route, your next destination is Colmenar de Arroyo, where its old and robust stone bridges have become a point of tourist interest in the Community of Madrid for its architecture and its beauty. Here are two striking Romanesque bridges that cross the stream: El Fragua and El Caño.
After the first half of the stage head to Fresnedillas de la Oliva, where your Lunar Museum will be the next recommended stop. Along the way you will cross the Bunker Blockhaus 13, which allows you to travel back in time to the Spanish Civil War and imagine for a while how the battle between the two armies was.
You can take advantage of the tourist office of Fresnedillas to collect more information of the area, and consult about the Ruins of Torreon de Fuentelámpara before heading to the end of the stage in Zarzalejo.
