Description
To Zarzalejo you can arrive by train from the city of Madrid, through its station or overnight overnight in one of the accommodations offered by the area.
Zarzalejo, a small town in the Sierra Oeste region of the Community of Madrid, a place of recreation and rest of Felipe II, preserves its old quarter of traditional mountain typology framed in a landscape of berrocales, piedemonte and chestnut trees.
Start the route in the direction of Robledo de Chavela, part of the Imperial Route (municipalities where King Felipe II spent his journeys between Madrid and the Monastery of El Escorial). The old mansions that dot the municipality attest to its historical heritage.
You can not miss the opportunity to visit the old town of Robledo before leaving for Colmenar del Arroyo.
Continue your route towards the Villaescusa road, pedaling towards the historic Mocha Bridge, also known as Puente Romano de Valdemaqueda, Bridge of the 5 eyes or Bridge of the river Cofio, of 40 meters and raised on the beautiful waters of the river Cofio.
Following the route through the road we use Robledo de Chavela again to head for Fresnedilla de la Oliva, where we recommend you make a stop to visit your Lunar Museum. Through unique and original pieces, it allows the traveler to approach the space adventure carried out by the man, which culminated with the arrival to the moon and the Apollo XII mission.
You can take advantage of the tourist office of Fresnedillas to collect more information of the area, and consult about information of the area, before heading to the end of the stage in Zarzalejo.
To finalize the experience we recommend that you visit the Zarzalejo Royal Wall or Fence, declared a Cultural Interest in 2006, is a wall that Felipe II had to raise to surround the domains of the monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
