Let’s get started: a route through the territory of Don Álvaro de Luna
We suggest you visit the heritage site in San Martín de Valdeiglesias: the Don Álvaro de Luna domains. The history of San Martín de Valdeiglesias is very closely tied to the figure of Don Álvaro de Luna who is said to have ordered the Coracera castle be built. This was after purchasing the village and feudal estate of San Martín de Valdeiglesias in the ridges of the Gredos mountains for 30,000 maravedies.
Next station: near San Martín
The Gran Tour Cyclemadrid runds from San Martín de Valdeiglesias to Pelayos de la Presa, where you can visit the Santa María la Real monastery. The route crosses the territory of Sierra Oeste, which is quite well conserved. The Iberian imperial eagle is regularly seen in these mountains. San Martín makes one you want to go beyond the village to discover the Enchanted Forest, the San Juan and Picadas reservoirs or even any of the nearby wineries.
To finish up: San Martín de Valdeiglesias, the land of wine
San Martín de Valdeiglesias is also the land of wine with a long-standing tradition dating back to the 12th century. The hillsides are covered in vines with the winding streams supplying the necessary water and the hundred-year-old techniques for winemaking are combined with the most up-to-date knowledge of viticulture.
