CycleMadrid in the Sierra Norte: from Rascafría to Buitrago del Lozoya along a natural trail

It’s a rather interesting idea for taking in some of the best landscapes in the Sierra Norte enjoying nature and the local gastronomy. It’s the ideal cycling tourism experience for any enthusiast. We’ve got the perfect route which can be done on an electric bike or conventional bike because of the great layout even though there’s an intermediate difference in level. It’s suitable as a family or in a group with little prior training. Continue reading...

Let’s get started: Valle del Lozoya, Rascafría

The Lozoya Valley is encased between the long mountain chain Los Montes and the mountain range that splits in the centre of it: La Cuerda Larga. The successive elevations of more than two thousand metres surrounding the valley form a spectacular landscape which, together with the riverside forests, pine groves, oak groves, ash groves and holm oaks, shows the great diversity of ecosystems found in the Sierra Norte de Madrid. There lies Rascafría, one of the villages we’re going to visit.

To finish up: Lozoya Valley, Buitrago

This plan suggests continuing in Buitrago del Lozoya following one of the most spectacular itineraries that can be done in the Region of Madrid: the Lozoya Valley Nature Trail. In Buitrago, you can visit the walls, the historic centre and the Picasso Museum. This plan can be done in two legs, staying overnight in Lozoya where there’s accommodation available specializing in cycling tourism.
