Let’s get started: Colmenar de Oreja, relax in the fertile plains of the Tagus

Just over 50 km away from the capital city, Colmenar de Oreja is next to the fertile plains of the river Tagus. To the north, it borders Chinchón and to the west, Aranjuez. It’s no doubt a blooming area where wine, olive oil and the products of the fertile plains gain importance. Declared as a Site of Cultural Interest within the category of heritage site, Colmenar de Oreja finds in its Plaza Mayor the heart of the municipality and an enclave that is better known for having served as the setting of several films and television series.

Next station: Villarejo de Salvanés, an enclave with a medieval past

The route through Villarejo allows visitors to see different manor houses along with the remains of the wall and the castle that are still standing. Indeed the castle of Villarejo and the Casa de la Tercia best illustrate the importance of this town. Both buildings, together with the church of San Andrés Apóstol, were declared Historic-Artistic Sites in 1974 and, later, in 1992, the walled enclosure and La Tercia, were further declared Sites of Cultural Interest.
