The art that questions power arrives at the Palace of Velázquez
From June 24, 2026 to March 8, 2027, the Museo Reina Sofía presents "La Perla Peregrina," a major exhibition dedicated to the Madrid artist Fernando Sánchez Castillo, in the iconic Palace of Velázquez in El Retiro Park, with free admission.
Through surprising sculptures and installations, Sánchez Castillo transforms symbols of authority, monuments, and objects linked to power to invite us to reflect on history, memory, and official narratives. His work dismantles the solemnity of political symbols and reveals the contradictions that lie behind them.
The exhibition draws inspiration from the legendary "Perla Peregrina," a jewel rich in history that has passed through royal courts, collectors, and famous figures. From this story, the artist explores how violence, beauty, and power intertwine in the construction of historical narratives.
