The Baroque Goyeneche Palace is the axis of the Nuevo Baztán complex designed in the 18th century by José de Churriguera, composed of the contiguous Church of San Francisco Javier and two squares.

Eighed adjacent to the Goyeneche Palace, the Church of San Francisco Javier, Historical Artistic Monument since 1941, is the great point of reference of Nuevo Baztán, around which the urban layout of the whole complex gravitate.

Inaugurated in 2003, the Interpretation Center, located in the old warehouse of the industrial complex of Nuevo Baztán, brings us the figure of Juan de Goyeneche, visionary promoter of the project that gave rise to the municipality.

Together with Plaza de la Iglesia and Plaza de las Fiestas, it is one of the three squares marking the boundaries of the architectural complex to which the Palacio de Goyeneche belongs. There you can find the façade of the old cloth factory.  It was originally porticoed so that travellers and merchants could find shelter; however, today only the stone supports where the wooden columns holding the roofing stood can be found. Another original characteristic of this urban planning is the centralised layout, in an axial way, of the rest of the squares: from this square you can see all the others, even all the towers of the complex. The view we have today of the square differs greatly from reality, with a stone fountain rising in the centre and a platform on the side of the tower to protect the roofs of the crypts.

Its gardens frame the palace’s main façade. The Fuente de los Tritones (fountain) can be found at its centre. It is one of the three squares framing the entire urban complex. The urban development model of Nuevo Baztán influenced greatly the new towns developed by Pablo de Olavide, Minister of Charles III, in the Sierra Morena and other areas of Andalusia.

It was the place where farmers lived.   It is the last block of the complex and its buildings show a worse construction style as well as quality of materials, as we move further away from the palace.

It is located behind the palace complex. In the past, the palace festivities, plays, concerts and bullfights were held here, which were once attended by Philip V himself. The Casa de los Oficios, with a beautiful gallery of arches, overlooks it.

Located in the area where the “Almunia Hill” is also located, is 1.5 km away from the town centre. Based on its shape, it is a fountain-laundry-trough, since these three sections are duly differentiated. The Almunia Fountain is also known as “Laundry-Fountain” or “Upper Belmonte del Tajo Fountain” and belongs to the Historical Site of Nuevo Baztán, which was granted the status of Site of Cultural Interest on the 16 of March, 2000. Before that, La Almunia had belonged to Villar. However, the proceedings initiated by said City Council were of no use against Don Juan de Goyeneche after he seized a large portion of land, including its tile factory and its famous pastureland. Today it cannot be visited.

Until today, it is the only one deemed made by José de Churriguera and it is sculpted in the same limestone as the whole complex. The namesake Tritons are the main characters of the fountain which, in two pairs, hold the plate to which water is poured from the upper fountain dispenser. The Fountain of the Tritons, even though it has been modified and relocated, has always remain in this same square since it was built.

This fountain is located at km 11 of Ctra. M-204, on the way down to Valverde de Alcalá. It is a spring of laxative and diuretic waters very famous in the past, so much so that its waters were sent to Flanders in bottles.  They were used by Philip II, Philip III, Philip IV and Charles II over the years.   The complex is made up of two fountains and a stone monolith.  One of them is the real spring, from which the laxative waters flow, while the other is a fountain-trough, to which the waters have been led from the spring itself.  The stone monolith, which is rectangular in shape and ends in a peak, rests on two steps and has lithographic engravings on one side representing the properties of the water that flows from it: “King’s Fountain. Whose salubrious waters were drank at the tables of Kings and even sent to Flanders”

The old inn is located among the buildings that make up the grid-shaped layout, in which the blocks that make it up are progressively impoverished as we move away from the central core. The inn is worth the visit; it was the place where merchants and traders who came to Nuevo Baztán to buy different items and to bathe in the Almunia Fountain stayed.

Very close to the complex, in the passage, the old elm tree can be found, the only survivor of the ones planted by Juan de Goyeneche so that travellers could find shade in hot days.
