Cervantes returns to Alcalá from October 8 to 12, 2026
The city once again becomes the stage for the Cervantine universe with a new edition of the Mercado Cervantino, which will be held from October 8 to 12, 2026.
October 9 is the most emblematic day of the celebration and a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the history and legacy of Miguel de Cervantes in Alcalá de Henares.
The day begins with the traditional Civic Procession of the Baptism Record of Miguel de Cervantes, an emotional journey from the Town Hall to the Capilla del Oidor, where the historical Baptismal Font of Cervantes is preserved. During this act, locals and visitors can contemplate one of the city's most valuable heritage treasures: the Baptism Record of Miguel de Cervantes, a document that testifies to the universal author's connection with his hometown.
At noon, the streets and squares of the historic center host the popular Public Reading of El Quijote, a participatory event that brings together readers of all ages around the most universal work of Spanish literature.
The celebration culminates in the afternoon with the presentation of the prestigious Premios Ciudad de Alcalá, which recognize achievements and excellence in disciplines such as poetry, novel writing, painting, historical research, journalism, and photography.
A day filled with tradition, culture, and emotion that makes Alcalá de Henares the best stage to celebrate the figure and work of Cervantes.
