Spring in its purest state
A newborn river can be quite capricious and it’s not uncommon to see it skipping merrily over the rocks. What’s more, in spring, there’s no containing it. This is the case in Sierra Norte, where the rivers are still very young. But these naughty burblings are well-hidden from view. Which is why we must go in search of them, if we wish to see the most authentic and primordial side of nature in the Sierra.
Here are two proposals for two consecutive days: see La Cascada de Luiteros in Somosierra,
Natural waterfalls close to springs
Everybody likes having choices, and this is why we offer more than one option. La Chorrera de los Luiteros is the shortest and simplest, ideal for an excursion with small children. The waterfall of San Mamés is of medium difficulty; that of Cascada del Purgatorio requires a longer walk, suitable only for children who are used to walking.
And after the excursion?
In spring, the days are long and we can use the evenings better. After a day of physical activity, it’s time to enjoy a cultural activity.
On the evening of the first day, we recommend a tour of the walled section of Buitrago de Lozoya and a visit to the artillery exhibition on the Muralla Alta or High Wall. On the evening of the second day, an interesting option might be a walk around the surroundings of the Monastery of El Paular, with an optional visit inside the Monastery. In any case, don’t forget to visit the Chocolate Natural y Artesano San Lázaro workshop, the little ones are going to love it and it’ll probably be a nice memory for them.
